For 19 seasons, the JVL Summer School for Performing Arts has been held in various locations in Ontario and around the world, including Cremona, Italy (as part of the collaboration with the Cremona International Music Academy, which we thank for granting us permission to use some media material from our collaboration). As of Summer 2022, the program is moving to Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Moreover, the Summer School program is completely revamped and reimagined. Our new facility gives us the opportunity to greatly expand our courses and offerings. It enables us to invite and host additional world class performers and faculty, and most importantly, it gives our students a whole new perspective of a true summer music experience.
Our Summer School program is renamed to Vancouver Island Music Academy or VIMA. We have also expanded the program from 10 days to 2 weeks, with our first season in Vancouver Island taking place from , Tuesday, August 2-Tuesday, August 16, 2022.
The Vancouver Island Music Academy is hosted by Brentwood College, which has an international reputation that matches their educational profile as one of the world’s great boarding schools.
Sheltered on the pristine coastline of Vancouver Island, the College’s 77-acre campus has over one kilometre of waterfront facing the Gulf Islands and stunning views of a snow-capped Mount Baker. The College is located forty kilometres north of Victoria and is adjacent to the village of Mill Bay (population 3,250). It is less than one hour's drive from Swartz Bay Ferry terminals and Victoria International Airport.
We could not possibly imagine a better looking and magnificent campus for our Academy than Brentwood College. Apart from the gorgeous scenery and location, the facilities at Brentwood were tailor-made for a memorable summer of music making. The Academy will have its very own two-story Arts Building with spacious and modern music and practicing rooms, some of which are big enough to accommodate a full symphony orchestra. Most of our lessons, classes, and rehearsals will take place in this Arts Building. We will also have the use of the state of the art T. Gil Bunch Theatre Concert Hall which seats 431 people.
Our students, parents and faculty will all be living in newly renovated residence houses that are a short walk away from the Arts Building and Concert Hall, and of course be provided with magnificent meals everyday. Apart from our music program, they will also have access to various recreational activities on campus such as tennis, basketball, soccer, track and field, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and much more! As an added bonus, our new facility will also offer the opportunity for parents and guests to enjoy one of the most relaxing and beautiful holidays imaginable, one that only Vancouver Island can provide.
